Lokve is a small mountain village and municipality in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in Croatia. It is situated in the center of Gorski Kotar halfway between Delnice and Fužine, next to the highway Zagreb-Rijeka. Along the village runs a small river Lokvarka, whose reconstruction in the mid-20th century created a large accumulation lake - Lokvarsko lake. The place is first mentioned in the 15th century and in early 19th century experienced a sudden economic boom with the passage of the Louisiana road that connected the cities of Karlovac to Rijeka and continental Croatia to the Adriatic sea. Residents of Lokve traditionally were foresters, miners, craft, and farmers, and today except forestry also is developing tourism.
